The 12 Chicago Celebrates its Grand Opening With an Art Alley Expo.

Chicago builder Home& plans the Grand Opening of its new Tri-Taylor development - The 12 Chicago with a unique art show. The 12, named after its location’s 60612 zip code is a part the city’s rapidly developing neighborhood featuring thirty single family homes for sale. Home& founder Alex Nakonechny partnered with the local graffiti-based gallery owner Sara Dulkin of Chicago Truborn to have a mural painted on each of its thirty garage doors. The builder invites the public to join them in celebration of the grand opening and unveiling of the completed murals on Saturday, November 21st between 12-3 pm. This is an outdoor event and visitors will have an opportunity to tour a decorated model home located at 2532 W Polk St observing social distancing rules.

The 12 is developed by Home&, formerly known as Smart Tech Homes, an experienced team of construction experts, architects, designers, project managers, and skilled tradespeople. Alex Nakonechny said that the new name “Home&” represents that a home is more than a building, and the firm prides itself on helping each buyer make a home uniquely theirs. The firm has built over three hundred homes in the Chicago area in the last twenty-five years.

Proud of their Chicago roots, Home& chooses emerging neighborhoods where its developments contribute to the economic growth and rising home values for the community. The 12 is located in Chicago’s Tri-Taylor neighborhood which is growing in demand because of the expansion of both the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Illinois Medical District. It’s just steps from Little Italy and minutes to West Loop, and River North.

This neighborhood’s close proximity to downtown Chicago and easy access to public transit has increased its profile in recent years and created an influx of new residents moving to the area. Tri-Taylor named for its shape and the street that runs through it features historic European-style homes and new construction buildings that are popping up to accommodate its recent growth in popularity. The 12 sits on the former site of William King Elementary and the builder pledged to make a donation of $5,000 from every home sold to the Chicago Public Schools.

The 12 Chicago is the builder’s newest exciting development of thirty single family homes featuring 4 bedrooms/3.5 baths, two-car garages, decks and fenced backyards with pricing starting at $590,000. These homes feature an open, airy & intelligent floorplan that allows functional, stylish urban living with ability for each buyer to customize the interior finishes of the home to reflect their individual personality. Each home comes with a custom mural garage door painted by a local Chicago Artist.

Home& partnered with the graffiti-based gallery Chicago Truborn to have a mural painted on each of its thirty garage doors. Established in 2011 and located in West Town, Chicago Truborn specializes in mural production and has facilitated over 50 pieces of public art in Chicagoland. The gallery regularly facilitates murals for local organizations and larger ones too, like Nike and The Chicago Bears. This exciting new partnership with Home& was the perfect collaboration to showcase some of the biggest names in Chicago’s contemporary urban art scene while supporting the local creative community. This project is perhaps one of the largest, and first of its kind in Chicago, bringing thirty local artists together on one mural initiative will surely be a part of public art history.

Alex Nakonechny of Home& would like to thank gallerist and project manager, Sara Dulkin for bringing this project to life and you can show your support for the local artist community by coming to this event. The first 15 featured artists are: Lauren Asta, Ant Ben, Brian Keller, Blake Jones, Fonte, Anthony Lewellen, Stuk One, Lisa Gray, Bojitt, Rodney Duran, Kevin Demski, Revisecmw, Natalie Shugailo, Mitch Reardon, Jarema Khrushch.

Home& invites you to take in the beauty of this unique project and to celebrate this exciting collaboration during the grand opening event at The 12. The event will take place on Saturday, November 21st from 12-3 pm. and we encourage you to follow social distancing rules as you stroll through the “art alley”.

Chicago developer Home& built the latest addition to “The 12” on a former site of a Chicago Public School.

The ghostly lot where a Chicago elementary school once sat is now the site of nearly 30 new homes that are part of the latest Chicago suburb development called “The 12.”William King Elementary, which was once located at 2500 W. Lexington St., was one of the 50 schools that Chicago Public Schools shuttered in 2014. Three years later, Chicago developer Home& (formerly known as Smart Tech Homes) purchased the lot for $1.5 million and began construction on the 30 new homes. Fifteen houses will face Polk street and another 15 will face Lexington.

Under the agreement with CPS, for every home sale, the developer will donate $5,000 to the school system.

The 30 homes at the former William King Elementary school are part of a broader development plan for the Tri-Taylor neighborhood. An additional 45 single and multi-family homes will be developed on lots off of Roosevelt Road and W. Fillmore St. In December, Home& finished selling 15 other homes just a few blocks south of the new development on S Campbell Ave. Those units ranged from $550,000 to $585,000.

The Near West Side has been booming with residential development and the Gateway development has brought new medical companies to the area. With the addition of The 12, Home& is dubbing the area the “new west,” said Alex Nakonechny, founding principal of Home&.

The 30 homes which hit the market Jan. 22 are four-bedroom, 3.5 bathroom homes and start at $599,000. Brooke Vanderbok of @properties is the exclusive agent for the development.
